OUR Response: CA Supreme Court RULING regarding Sheriff Bianco’s ballot seizure

This morning, the California Supreme Court ruled that Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco broke the law and created “a substantial risk to election integrity” when he seized over 650,000 ballots this March. For far too long, the RivCo Sheriffs have acted beyond the law, eroding trust in public institutions & the democratic process. We welcome this decision that affirms the rights of California voters, especially in a moment when our voices are most under attack.

“Here in Riverside County, we vote loudly and proudly because we know voting is how we shape the futures of our communities and build a better future together. We commend the California Supreme Court for affirming the principle that nobody, no matter their title, budget, or threats, can take away our power.

“Along with our We Are California partners across the state, we are hard at work ensuring that every eligible voter understands that our election system was built for them, no matter if they’re a small business owner with a busy schedule, a single mom juggling child care or a worker covering multiple shifts. 

“This fall, we’re going to protect our political power by using it, because we know that the more people participate, the harder it is to deny our collective power. We will participate at a level that will ensure our power and our presence are undeniable, and we will be on watch for any signs of interference.”
